This is a gently used quilt that is approaching its 100th year of age, that was damaged by handling in recent times: someone wrote several numbers on an are close to the center of the quilt, affecting 2 blocks, as can be seen on pic # 4 from a distance, and then # 5 and 6 at closer range.

The writings were done, we believe, with a permanent marker that was (maybe fortunately) running out of ink, as you may notice on those photos: the numbers are visible, but they are certainly faint. We don't know how to remove or at least partially remove permanent marker from cotton.

There is one more flaw: a small dirty spot near the bottom left corner, see pic # 8. That spot is cleanable. The binding and the backing of the quilt are in good shape, and it  has no odors. We found no holes or rips or damaged embroideries. It has no odors.

The quilt was made, it seems to us, by a ground of friends who included someone who they probably called "Mama". This might be a family quilt, for all we know.

The names were searched (a simple search, not the more sophisticated pay-to-search one) and we found three that might be from places in Texas, but they are not "grouped", they are all over the place, and Texas is big, so that search was not very useful. The other "hits" we found were all over the USA, so we can't tell where the quilt was made. The next owners could try putting more time in searching and they might get some kind of "grouping" that could tell them where the quilt became to be.

The embroideries are all floral, and very nice. The fabrics are all 100% cotton, as well as the batting.

It measures 75" by 64" across and weighs 4 3/4 lb. unboxed: it is rather thick and heavy.

The bed is a queen, 80" by 60".

All the sewing, including the quilting, was done by hand.
