This is a COPY of an original STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION script for “The First Duty” episode (not a transcript or Photoshop recreation). The original script was used by actor Robert Duncan McNeill and his part is marked on the pages. The original script was signed by Wil Wheaton. A reproduction is being offered here.

In this memorable episode, Wesley Crusher's team has an accident at Starfleet Academy. Picard offers to aid in a Starfleet investigation into what happened, and begins to suspect they are hiding something.

This fifth season episode was broadcast on March 30, 1992, over 30 years ago, and was ranked ninth in Entertainment Weekly's Top 10 list of TNG episodes. Geek.com rated Picard's lecture as the fourth greatest moment in Star Trek overall.

This episode marks one of the final returns of former regular cast member Wil Wheaton as Wesley Crusher and is one of his best, by far. It’s the first of three appearances by veteran actor Ray Walston (My Favorite Martian) as Picard’s mentor, Boothby. It is also the first appearance of McNeill in the Star Trek franchise, playing the pivotal role of Nicholas Locarno.

Locarno served as the template for the character of Tom Paris on the later Star Trek: Voyager series. After many auditions it was suggested to simply bring McNeill in to reprise the Locarno part since they were using his character as a model for Tom Paris already. They hired McNeill but had him play the new character, not Locarno.

The cover has been copied in color and a sheet of acetate has been added to keep it looking pristine. The interior pages have been copied in black and white and the backing is sturdy black card stock. This makes for a great conversation piece for your coffee table or a unique gift for the classic TV fan in your life. Great care has been taken to make this a piece that a collector will be proud to own and show off.
