TH400 PRO MOD DIRECT DRUM ASSEMBLY with 36 ELEMENT SPRAG AND CLUTCH PACK

The TH400 is the "go to" transmission for modern high powered street and race cars. When torque and horsepower levels increase so do internal line

pressures for these transmissions. The increased load it put through the transmissions internal components.

Intermediate Sprag failures are common in TH400 transmissions when shift kits, full manual or transbrake valve bodies are installed for performance applications.

The common roller type sprag/one way clutch becomes a weak point above 500HP. A simple upgrade is to switch to the 34 element design. The lug /element type design greatly increases torque load that the sprag is able to hold, reducing failure and expensive repairs.

When you power and torque levels go up, so does your need for stronger, improved components.

For even more horsepower some aftermarket drums utilize a 36 Element Lug type sprag with aftermarket inner and outer races. This kit is suitable for applications over 2500HP.

This kit contains a modified OEM drum to incorporate a genuine Borg Warner 36 Element Sprag. Custom hardened inner and outer racers will provide maximum torque holding capabilities.

The custom sprag and races are held in place with a spiral locking ring that eliminates centrifugal release of the OEM retaining snap ring.

The custom outer sprag ring requires a modified clutch pack and intermediate pressure plate, which is contained in this kit.

The OEM iron drum allows the intermediate band to be retained for engine braking in second gear, further protection the sprag from "rolling".

Many aftermarket 36 Element Drums are made from aluminium which is not suited to intermediate band use as the band wears away the outer surface of the drum, contaminating the transmission fluid with aluminium paste.

A selection of intermediate clutch steel plates is provided that will enable the builder to tailor the intermediate clutch pack clearance to their liking.
