TWO Envelopes that contained now-gone letters that were taken to the postoffice and mailed.  The postmaster applied the markings he tought appropriate for the letters' journey, which are considered very collectible.

Condition problems.  Super rare cancels.  From the Horner correspondence as discussed below:
 
Gustavus Richard Brown Horner wrote the book Naval Medical Practice. He graduated with a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.). He gained the rank of officer in the service of the U.S. Navy.

The papers of Gustavus Richard Brown Horner (1804-1892), who retired to Warrenton in 1871 with the rank of Commodore, are at the Library of Congress (4900 items) and at the University of Virginia Library (33 volumes of diaries and journals). In the course of his career, he wrote three important books on naval medicine that became standard texts.
