RARE ANTIQUE CHODOR TURKOMAN "ERTMAN-GUL" TORBA, Central Asian Tribal, Turkmenistan, mid-19th century (or earlier), and coming in very good overall condition for the collector. The exact size is: 1'-5" x 4'-5" (43 x 135 cm). This rare Turkmen textile artifact with its three precise and spaciously drawn "ertman guls" as field ornaments is asymmetrically knotted open to the right on natural  brown goat hair or wool for the warps and natural ivory cotton for the wefts. All of the colors are 100% natural and derived from plant sources. The overall pile is in good condition for its age with one small area of wear (see photo # 8). The left and right sides have been slightly reduced as have the top and bottom endings. The perimeter has been sewn secure all the way around to prevent any future loss of structure. There is one small stain in the field (see photo # 7) and one area with a joined 3" tear along the top right border. There are a couple of gouges to the bottom corners and on the bottom of the elem panel. This weaving is clean and collection ready. A really old and very pretty specimen of its type for the collector. It makes a stunning tribal textile art display as a wall hanging.
