Tony Spina was the chief photographer of the Detroit Free Press since 1952. He was also the special assistant to the managing editor since 1986. His memorable photographs of the Detroit riots helped the Free Press win the Pulitzer Prize in 1968. The book includes 288 pages of his pictures, 38 of them in color, spanning his more than four decades as a photojournalist and front-row observer of historic events. Spina is one of America's most distinguished photojournalists. More than 450 national and international honors and awards have recognized his stunning pictures and innovative leadership in newspapering, including the Sprague Memorial Award, highest honor of the National Press Photographers Association. 278 pages.
