You are buying ONE (1) only of a High Purity Translucent Poly Crystalline Alumina Ceramic Tube. It is in excellent condition being NOS (New Old Stock). They are made from 99.95% purity Aluminum Oxide (Al2O3) which of course is Alumina. Generally the balance of composition for this purity Alumina material is of Magnesium Oxide (MgO) which is Magnesia.
This material has very high hardness, very high stiffness, very good corrosion resistance to chemicals at high temperature, most specifically it is resistant to attack from molten Sodium, and it has very high refractory ness or use temperature. It is also very durable having even better mechanical strength properties than other high purity alumina materials. It has better thermal shock resistance as compared with other alumina materials as well. This is realized through its more uniformly controlled grain size which is required to provide the necessary optical translucency.
They may be used for a variety of electrical, mechanical, and thermal applications. They may be used as setter plates for firing parts in a kiln. The may be used for high temperature furnaces and as high temperature refractory turntables. They may be used optical site tubes for taking readings of very high temperatures. They may also be used for jewelry or for applications requiring high wear or abrasion resistance. They may be used for making high pitch resonance chimes. NOTE: There is an end washer at each of the tube extremes. The ends may be cut off id the large ID is desire for use.
Please Note: There are visually discernible differences in any or all of the dimensions. These are not precision technical ceramic components. There is no warp or camber Specification for this item. However they are relatively flat. There may also be “firing” color variations inherent in the material. The thermal shock resistance is not very high so exercise rule of thumb caution. “The larger the piece of material the slower the rate of temperature increase should be applied to the piece.” Heat up slowly to avoid cracking in use.
