Butia Odorata

Until recently this species was wrongly called Capitata, but has now been re-categorised as a species in its own right. Very similar to B. Capitata although faster growing with a stouter trunk and more cold tolerant, down to -10. So ideally suited to the UK climate, and can be seen growing in many parks and gardens, especially the further south you are.

A stunning feather palm from the coastal grasslands of South America, which eventually grows to 20ft, but more likely around 12ft in the UK. Long blue/grey to green fronds arch gracefully almost down to the ground. Each leaf stem remains on the trunk to create a unique and vivid pattern.
