Shock horror! Yes, it's another video game tie-in of a blockbuster movie, but where would we be without them? On this occasion, you get to see Spider-man swinging around, spraying his web in downtown New York on your PlayStation 2. Something evil is afoot in the skyscraper city, and it doesn't take long before Spider-man's numerous arch enemies emerge as the prime suspects. The vanquishing of the nasty piece of work that is Green Goblin is your ultimate goal in this episode. You're Spider-man, you know what to do. We know you would expect PlayStation 2 games to look pretty sweet by now, but Spider-man looks absolutely astonishing. The technically accomplished environments utilise almost every enhancement afforded by the PS2 hardware to create a surreal, visually appealing game world. The premise of the game is very much like its predecessors: to swing high and low whilst demolishing your arch-enemy's minions. The highly polished aerial combat system is great for easy and precise control, allowing you to move almost anywhere within the free-roaming environments. Your web-spinning skills can often prove to be a great means of escape or transportation, but they are also needed to defeat the resident henchmen that stand in your way. By simply tapping a button on the pad, you can sling entire blobs of web to stun the enemy, buying you some invaluable seconds. If you prefer, you can use basic kick and punch attack combinations, but they will do you little good in the later stages of the game. Many movie tie-ins have been heavily criticised for their lack of depth and poor gameplay. But, like Rare's Goldeneye, this one stands out from the rest simply because it's fun to play. Can you really ask for more than that?
