American musical in which two generations of a vaudevillian family attempt to make their own fortunes. Music hall partners Terence and Molly Donahue (Dan Dailey and Ethel Merman) aim for everyday family life while also trying to launch their brood into the limelight; however their children, Steve (Johnnie Ray), Katy (Mitzi Gaynor) and Tim (Donald O'Connor) seek to pursue their own interests. When Vicky (Marilyn Monroe) meets Tim, she realises that getting involved with the family may just be the making of her own career.
