Q: Can the lens be removed, for when you want to remove FB from the ear canal?
A:The lens is removable for cleaning but you would have to be a very skilled person with proper instruments to ever remove something through the middle of an otoscope. An ENT specialist might be able to do the job but I have tried this approach in the ER and found it impossible. Remember you have to have an forceps or instrument that can also fit down the middle of the otoscope. Usually its widest diameter is around 5mm at the small end. It works much better to use the otoscope to look through and then run your instrument into the ear canal beside the specula or nose cone. Actually easiest way to remove a foreign substance from the ear is by flushing it out with warm water unless you are an ENT with special microscope and instruments. Just saying from many years of experience in the ER dealing with insects, peas, beads, ceruman or anything else that can get stuck in an ear. Believe me I have seen it all one time or another. I could write a book about all the interesting things that people have stuck in other orifices.....but that that should be left for a different chapter in the book. see less
Q: Does the glass have magnification?
A:Yes it has the same magnification and focal length as a Professional Welch Allyn Otoscope. We used their lens as our prototype when deciding on the optimal magnification and focal length for ear exams
Q: Does this come with pediatric specula that would fit a 2 yr old and a 10 month old? If not which ones should I buy?
A:It comes with two sizes, one small and one large. The small one works fine for young children. I have a 20 month old, and a 2 month old and it works on both of them.
