This is an original letter (it's real deal--this is NOT a reproduction) that was folded after it was written and taken to the post office by the writer and mailed.  It is a "stampless folded letter."  You are purchasing both the postal portion and the letter portion.

ONE of the reasons it is collectible is because of the fact that  the local postmaster applied postal markings considered appropriate for the letter's journey.  In addition to being collectable becasue of the content of the letter, or the writer, or the addressee, it is a collectable item of postal history because of the rates, markings and usage.

"Patrick C. H. 21 August" Virgina manuscript on an 1845 one-page letter signed J. Kellie McCabe and sent to Colonel Thomas McCabe at Floyd Court House, Virginia.

The paper has a super nice watermark "A. MILES PHILADELPHIA"

Datelined "Patrick Court House, Augst 20th 1845" and saluted "Dear Brother" and signed "Yours In Haste, J. Kellie McCabe."

Content relates to a wedding and includes "...she...requested me to do the kindness to tell you to be certain to bring him over with you.  She will have only 4 attendants I think.  I sent the note at your request to J. Martin, Jr.  Wm. Staples came home with me from the camp meeting..."

Super fresh condition.
