SYNOPSIS

Hammond Innes’ knowledge of the sea and sailing small ships is unmatched by any novelist today.

In his yacht "Mary Deare," Innes and his wife explore the coasts and islands of Europe from Scandinavia to Turkey, and also from the Western Isles to remote Addu Atoll in the Indian Ocean and Easter Canada.

This book tells the wonderful story of the early years of the author’s yacht ‘Mary Deare’; and her adventures during a six year period when the author raced the yacht in the 1961 North Sea Race followed by five voyages in the Agean Sea.

Very very entertaining  read!

Reviews..

Sea and Islands is the gracefully written, deeply felt record of some of the author's voyages in his ocean going yacht exploring seas of Northern Europe. Also covers his participation in the 1961 North Sea Race From England to Malta. Second half of book covers his travels around some the islands in this area.

FABULOUS WRITING !!  ..... Although (Ralph) Hammond(-)Innes (1913 - 1998) (AKA Ralph Hammond) began his writing career in the late 1930s, it wasn't until the early 1950s that he achieved major success with such books ‘The Lonely Skier’, ’Campbell's Kingdom,  and ‘The Wreck of the Mary Deare’. This is an example of his non-fiction writing, in which he writes about his world-wide travels in his yacht, "The Mary Deare".

Marvellous Reading!
