Antique, rare, Victorian, silver plate/ quadruple plate, brides basket with 3 dimensional, figural squirrels. Made in approx the mid 1800's. The base is square with fluted design. The feet are a filigree vine on a trellis design, topped with a rounded handle that features squirrels on each side of the handle. The very top of the handle is another filigree scroll design. Very unique and beautiful. Makers Mark: J. A. Babcock and Co Quadruple Plate 557 Measurements: approx 12" tall, base measures approx 5" x 5" square, overall width is approx 10" This basket is in good antique condition for it's age. Shows some signs of wear for it's age such as slight surface scratches and wear in small areas. The inside of the basket has some staining and what looks like tape residue or scratches. Bottom side shows some slight bubbled areas. Overall this looks like an exceptional piece and super shiny. Not sure what, if any, was supposed to go in the base area as my research didn't come up with anything. Most of my items are vintage which are used or aged so my items are sold "as is".
