This is your chance to own a vanishing species of truly unique origins.
Handmade right here in the great city of New Orleans, Louisiana, this
beautiful plaque is an exact replica of the iconic Water Meter covers
found across the area.
The history of this piece is unique
to New Orleans, not to be found anywhere else. The cover was designed
by the founder of the Ford Water Meter Company following a trip to New
Orleans back in 1920. New Orleans was the Ford Water Meter company's
biggest client at the time, and the Ford Company was the inventor of the
meter.
Since 1920, these covers have become something of
an icon. Highly sought after, the original covers are often pilfered
only to be replaced by a generic meter cover as the originals are no
longer produced.
These replicas I produce are molded
directly from the cover, so they are an exact copy in every sense. They
measure 11.5" in diameter and just about 1" thick. Unlike the heavy
metal covers, these are cast from a proprietary casting material that
make them hard like stone, yet very lightweight (less than 2 pounds
each).
Each piece has a hook built right into the back for
hanging indoors or out. I've also included a brief history of the meter
on the back of each one that also has some care instructions. These
are decorative plates, hand painted - as such, they are not recommended
for use as trivets or stepping stones.
