Smash a bottle on the curb and rub the neck down until it is smooth is how the old blues masters would do it or so the story is told.  Those old bluesmen knew something and we haven’t really come up with anything much better.  Except the smashing and grinding on cement.  In order for a slide to give the tone we all want the slide needs to be hard and heavy.  Thick colored glass is the answer.  Wine bottles are still the best solution.  We hand select all of our bottles.  Other bottles , including beer bottles ,  just don’t give the desired result.  We leave the cut end with a flat cut because , in our experience it helps improve the players grip on the slide.  The bevel might look better but it just does not  work as well.  Dark colored bottles are harder than clear and so generally give a more traditional soulful tone.  Clear glass gives a brighter more ringing tone.   Look for clear glass slides on my other auctions.  In general dark green or brown bottles are your best choice. Very heavy. Great tone.  Ring sizes 10 3/4 & 8 1/4. The slide and bag you see is the one you will receive.
