The kangaroo series the Royal Australian Mint began striking in 1993 in silver 1 oz coins has become iconic now.

The series has become extremely popular with collectors all over the world.

The particular design featured on this 2002 coin is taken from a painting by Aboriginal Artist Mark Nodea.

Mark comes from the Gija Tribe in the Eastern Kimberley Region and lives in WARMUN (TURKEY CREEK).

His paintings reflect the nearness of the *Bungle Bungles* the red earthy colours of the Kimberley Region.
