Limited edition aviation art print Bader’s Bus Company
signed in pencil by JOHNNIE JOHNSON,
HUGH “COCKY” DUNDAS,
DENIS CROWLEY-MILLING and artist ROBERT
TAYLOR. This print depicts the
Spitfire fighters of the legendary Tangmere Wing in 1941, high above the south
coast of Sussex, England. They are flying a southerly course towards
the Pas de Calais and no doubt another
encounter with the infamous Abbeville Boys led by Adolf Galland. The Tangmere Wing, led by Douglas Bader until
his loss to POW status over France
in 1941, produced some of the finest RAF fighter leaders of the war. In trademark Taylor fashion, this print is dominated by an
expansive early morning cumulus cloudscape.
This print is SOLD OUT at the
publisher. This print is NOT signed by Sir Douglas Bader.
Air Marshal SIR DENIS CROWLEY-MILLING KCB CBE DSO DFC AE. During the Battle of Britain Crowley-Milling flew in Douglas Bader's section and joined his Spitfire Wing at Tangmere, as a Flight Commander of 610 Squadron. He was shot down in August 1941 but managed to evade capture in France, only to fall ill in Spain with paratyphoid. In 1942 he formed the first Typhoon Bomber Squadron mainly attacking German airfields throughout northern France. He finished the war with 5 victories.
