The 15th Air Force was the strategic air force in the Mediterranean Theater, flying B-17 and B-24 heavy bombers along with fighter escorts in wide ranging raids from Romania to Southern France and Germany. Their most famous exploit was the daring attack on the Ploiesti oilfields in Romania in the effort to starve the German war machine of petrol. This US Army AAF WW2 15TH AIR FORCE COMBAT BADGED KHAKI COTTON "CHINO" SHIRT is in very good condition, with some brownish soiling at the lower middle left front, a bit of loose threading to the bottom front button, a small spot of mothing to the overseas bars at the left cuff, and with some light overall wrinkling and age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the shirt is in fine shape, with absolutely no rips, holes, tears, or other damage to the tough khaki 100% cotton "chino" construction. Most interestingly, it bears the classic 15th Air Force patch at the right shoulder, and carries a khaki woven "Ruptured Duck" honorable discharge diamond at the right chest, woven Staff Sergeant chevrons at each sleeve, and 1 years worth of wool embroidered overseas stripes at the left cuff. A right shoulder patch in the US Army is a battle patch, signifying that the wearer served in that particular unit while it saw combat. It's stamped a Size "15 32" at the inside neck, boasts all of the original small flat rimmed khaki plastic buttons down the front, and at the cuffs and chest pockets, and is a fine example of a rare, original US Army AAF WW2 15TH AIR FORCE COMBAT BADGED KHAKI COTTON "CHINO" SHIRT. Now celebrating over 15 years on eBay. Bid with confidence and please view our other great military and aviation classics, including a US Army AAF WW2 EASTMAN A-4 KNIT WOOL MECHANIC'S CAP in MINT, unworn condition, boasting the classic "two way" weave along the bottom edge, and sporting an intricately sewn top crown.
