USAF air assets deployed to Vietnam in the early 1960s to support the South Vietnamese and Laotians in the covert Operation "Jungle Jim", flying T-28 Trojans and B-26 Invaders in a counterinsurgency effort against the Viet Cong and Pathet Lao. The T-28 flew low and slow, and was easy to fly and maintain, making it an ideal light attack plane for the expanding guerrilla war in Southeast Asia. From 1966 to 1974, these Jungle Jim "Air Commandos" flew with the Raven Forward Air Controllers during the "secret war" in Laos. The Ravens directed close air support for the CIA's Hmong guerrillas against Pathet Lao targets and NVA troops infiltrating down the Ho Chi Minh Trail. The success of the T-28 in Southeast Asia made it the CIA's "go to" attack plane in the Congo, supporting Western backed mercenaries under the legendary Mike Hoare. This USAF Vietnam AIR COMMANDO OPERATION "JUNGLE JIM" T-28 TROJAN THROTTLE QUADRANT is in very good condition, with some whitish patina along the right bottom, some light overall dusting, scratching, and surface chipping, missing the large "joy stick" from the throttle handle, and with some light overall age wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the quadrant is in fine shape, with absolutely no cracking or other damage to the tough metal construction, which retains approximately 95% of the original black finish. Most interestingly, it boasts pull handles for the mixture, wing flaps, propeller, and throttle, the first three of which sport the original knobs, feature the corresponding levers at bottom, and is dated "1957" on the original "ADAMS RITE / GLENDALE 4 CALIFORNIA / QUADRANT ENGINE ASSEMBLY CONTROL" nomenclature plate at the left side. It bears various molded and printed markings throughout, and is a fine example of a very rare, original USAF Vietnam AIR COMMANDO OPERATION "JUNGLE JIM" T-28 TROJAN THROTTLE QUADRANT. We have shown a photo of the cockpit of a T-28 Trojan; a similar throttle quadrant is visible on the lower left hand side. We have also shown a photo of an unmarked "Jungle Jim" T-28 escorting an unmarked Raven O-1 Bird Dog over Laos during the "secret war". Now celebrating over 15 years on eBay. Bid with confidence and please view our other great military and aviation classics, including a pair of very rare, original US Army USMC Marine Vietnam "JAPANESE" PATTERN TIGER STRIPE CAMO FIELD SHORTS in excellent condition, boasting a metal "hook and loop" front waist closure, and retaining a great amount of the vibrant "Japanese" pattern tiger stripe camouflage colors.
