Description

Up for auction is a road bike from the French bicycle manufacturer VITUS. I think the model name is 979 and it dates back to +/- 1980. It is 2x6 speed. The bike is in my opinion in excellent condition, with only minor signs of use. Definitely with very low milage considering the condition of the anodized rims - there is no abrasion caused by the brakes. This frame is made of Aluminium tubes, Vitus was a pioneer in these frame types. The seatpost diameter is 25mm. It is equipped with Campagnolo Super Record components.

There are of course no cracks or dents in the frame tubes. The frame tubes are Vitus aluminium. The frame is in excellent condition with hardly any signs of use, but please see pics and judge yourself. The decals are completely original. "Select" was the brand under which one of the largest Viennese dealer, "Gartner", offered his bikes. 30 years ago the bike left the bike shop Gartner with this groupset and these decals. I bought it from the original owner.

The bike received a complete soft restoration. It has been completely stipped, cleaned and reassembled. Everything works well, it shiftes and brakes well, but it could be improved after shipment and reassembling by putting some fresh grease and oil on the mechanical parts and do a little bit of brake and gear adjusting. The tires are tubulars (Vittoria Competition), they are not new, but still in good condition and very useable. The bike is generally very clean, but you may find traces of dirt here and there.

The bike is equipped with Campagnolo Super Record components. The components are all in excellent condition with little wear.

Please notice the following lightweight features:

The rear derailleur is the rare version with Aluminium bolts! The bottom bracket is OMAS with Titanium spindle. The brake calipers are mounted with aluminium nuts. The shifters are slotted.

From Campagnolo Super Record are: crankset, front and rear derailleur, the brakes (hopped up with aluminium nuts at the back), the brake levers, the headset, the bottom bracket, the seatpost, the hubs, the skewers and the shifters. The shifters are beautifully drilled. The rear derailleur is a Patent 1979 Campagnolo Super Record in excellent condition.

Components from other manufacturers are: the saddle (Selle Italia Turbo Bernard Hinault); the stem and the handlebar (Cinelli). The rims are for tubular tires - Mavic GP4 in mint condition. The handlebar tape is a new one by Ambrosio. The pedals are new and from MKS. The bottom bracket is a OMAS with Titanium spindle. The freewheel is Regina.

Frame size: according to my measuring: 56.5cm tall (center - center), 57.7cm (center - upper edge seatpost tube); 55.5cm long (center - center). Standover height 82cm.

s a description is always influenced by a personal opinion I made plenty of supersize pics that help you to judge the bike yourself. I have pics that I can send you by email. Please send me your email address if you want them.

Worldwide shipping! Please be aware that the buyer bears the risk of damage during transport. I pack well (usually packing a bicycle takes about 1,5 hours), but you never know what happens during transport. I will have to take off the 2 wheels and the pedals and  will also have to put the saddle and the handlebar aside the frame tubes. In some cases I will also take off the fork for additional safety of the bike. All this will be done well wrapped. Sometimes I ship in one parcel, sometimes in two. Please claculate with 1-2 hours for unwrapping and reassembling the bike and be aware that a small gearshift and brakes adjustment after reassembling the bike may be necessary. Insurance is included, but as far as I know in most cases the insurance covers only loss and not damage. Payment within 7 days. Good luck and happy bidding!

Shipping

Worldwide shipping were possible! I combine shipping costs!

I am located in Vienna, Austria, EU and ship from here. Although all parcels go by airmail, sometimes it can take a bit longer than expected. An average parcel, e.g. to the USA, takes about 10-14 business days to arrive. Sometimes it can also take 3-4 weeks. There are customs and security checks involved that sometimes delay the shipment.

Especially smaller parcels (up to 1kg), get in many cases upgraded at my costs to priority parcel mail (depends on the weight and destination). Still there is no guaranteed shipping time.

Carriers I use are the Austrian Post, DHL (large parcels) and sometimes smaller carriers like Hermes and GLS. In your country the parcels will be delivered with a local carrier (e.g. USPS in the USA).
