Series of 1917 US Postal Savings System Certificate of Deposit ~ Newark, NJ 1923 & 1930

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Up for auction is a Series of 1917 US Postal Savings System $1 & $2 Certificates of Deposit made out to Adolphus Hampton, account number 31917, on September 10 and 17, 1923 and August 14, 1930. The two Certificates of Deposit dated 1923 were each for $2. The single Certificates of Deposit dated 1930 was for $1.
I like the time line of these Certificates of Deposit and the story they tell. I can imagine Adolphus Hampton driving a milk truck, and deciding one Monday to deposit $2 into a Certificate of Deposit. I imagine the solar eclipse of that day could have influenced his decision to do so. Anyway, he thought it was such a good idea he did it again a week later. He maybe didn’t put any more money into postal Certificates of Deposit for awhile but, still driving the milk truck I imagine, he did it again August 14, 1930. I wonder if the stock market crash of the previous year influenced him to belatedly do so.
These certificates of deposit were obviously well taken care of both before and after they were paid out. Their condition like the day they were issued. Even the ink from the pens are like the day they were issued. I feel confident saying they are in mint condition. The pictures represent well the condition of the certificates.
