High military award for Acts of Gallantry during active operations against the enemy 

There were approx 37 000 medals awarded during WW1 

Medal was instituted in 1914

Following the 1993 review MC became avaliable to all ranks of all services - RN, RM, Army and RAF

Medal has ornamental cross in silver, with straight arms terminating in broad finals ornamented with Imperial Crowns. At the centre on the cross is the Royal Cypher

The reverse of the cross is plain design

It is full size reproduction medal

A ribbon has central stripe of deep purple flanked by equally sized stripes of white and it is attached to the Military Cross medal
