This layshaft is for BJ8 ONLY, the earlier type are smaller.

The bearings on these layshafts frequently fail and ruin the shaft.

The failures are not caused by poor design but rather poor driving!!

When drivers "crash" the gearbox into 1st or reverse gear small chips of hardened steel come off the gears and eventually find their way into the layshaft bearings through those little oil feed holes that you can see in the shaft.

Hardened steel chips and roller bearings don't play well together.
