Beautiful vintage work by Basset

18" X 22"

Louis Basset was born in 1948 in Paris as the son of Charles Basset, a French horn player at the Orchestre National de France.

Moving around the artistic scene of his father he got into contact with a group of young painters in Quartier Latin. Initially it was only on a friendship basis, until the moment he was challenged to paint by his artist drinking brothers.

To everyone's surprise Basset painted as if he had painted for many years already; he had been watching the techniques his friends used and simply imitated it, yet using a completely individual style.

Not long after that moment he sold his first works. Although initially many of his works were signed with the names of his friends for whom he painted, he eventually chose to reveal his own artistic identity: "Louis Paris" that's the name his friends had given him, because of the fact that most of his works are Paris views,  and he became Louis Basset again.
