Old tintype photo of Lincoln County Regulators of the American Old Wild West

I have acquired a box of old tintype photos which I believe date from the 1870’s including this one showing 5 men; being the jewel in the crown and up for auction.

I truly believe this one to be an amazing old tintype photo of US national importance in relation to the famous old American Wild West.

I am certainly pleased to have acquired a tintype showing a group of individuals because it stands to reason that it should be easier to recognise more people in a group and thereby add much more confidence in relation to the genuine authenticity of the many people shown, as opposed to having just one individual to recognise in a photo which could be much more difficult due to lookalikes of that one individual.  So hence, this is a photo that I have great confidence in being genuine.

I simply cannot accept the proposition that these 5 men are lookalikes of the same era who all happened to meet in the same studio and on the same day to have a group photo taken !

Take a look at the very last photo of Dick Brewer (comparison) photo in this listing.  I challenge anyone to tell me that these 2 photos are not of the same person !  The match is so striking and bang on the same person.

There are simply too many positive image matches in this photo to the genuine photos to suggest that 5 random lookalikes suddenly all appeared together for a group photo.  The chances of this are one in a million !  I am interested to hear what you think about this, so please feel free to send me an eBay message.

The sequential order of the attached photos is: (1st photo)

·         Group shot (the actual photo for sale): Note: Copyright stamp is for internet purposes only and is not ofcourse present on the tintype itself.

Followed by:

·         5 individual face shots close up (1 of the face of each respective member as shown in the Group shot) starting from standing top left (Yginio Salazar - 2nd photo) to seated far right (Fred Waite – 6th photo ) as follows:

- Yginio Salazar (2nd photo)

- Dick Brewer (3rd photo)

- Jose Chavez y Chavez (4th photo)

- George Coe (5th photo)

- Fred Waite (6th photo - unfortunately some scuffing on the face)

- Fred Waite (8th photo - genuine as taken from the internet)

 Reverse of tintype (7th photo).

Followed by 4 comparison photos as follows: See 9th to 12th photos:

·         Real genuine photos from the internet (for comparison purposes only in last 4 photos, and not part of this listing) of :

 Ø      Yginio Salazar - 10th photo

Ø  Dick Brewer (note: Stunning likeness and sporting exactly the same moustache as in the group photo and note exactly the same circular right ear - being the ear on the left as you look at him) - 9th photo

Ø  Jose Chavez y Chavez (note the same square face and jaw and exactly the same right ear - being the ear on the left as you look at him) - 11th photo.

Ø George Coe (comparison of him in the group photo V photo of him as an old man. Note: Both photos show the heavy beard and his mouth pointing downwards   ). 12th photo.

The size of the tintype is 4  1/8 inches by 3  1/16 inches.

I truly and honestly believe the photo depicts members of the Lincoln County Regulators of the American Old Wild West.

To be very clear who I am talking about, the individuals who I believe to be shown in the 5 Men Gang Tintype Photo are:

Top: 2 Men: Standing: Left to Right:

Left                                                               Right

Yginio Salazar                                              Richard M. "Dick" Brewer

……………………………………………………………………………………………………………

Bottom:  3 Men:  Seated: Left to Right:

Left                                                        Middle                                                 Right

Jose Chavez y Chavez                     George Coe [1]                                      Fred Waite [2]

[1] George Coe: Judging by the quite distinctive heavy beard and his mouth pointing downwards ⌒.

[2] Fred Waite: Judging by the quite distinctive long moustache & likely wearing a circular crown "Boss of the Plains" Stetson hat.

Possible date of this tintype: Not after 1878, given that was the year Dick Brewer died.

I am drawing the conclusion that these Regulators posed for this group photo perhaps taken by a famous photographer of that era, and then maybe each member posed respectively for an individual photo perhaps on the same day.

I would also like to reach out to anyone out there that can possibly help me with starting a formal verification process for this tintype, for example, relevant people I could contact such as historians, facial recognition experts, tintype photo experts etc.  So if you can help or advise, please message me.

And this particular tintype photo could very well be the only one known of the members of the Lincoln County Regulators gang posing for a studio group photo.

Anyway, thanks for reading my listing and I am sure will you agree that this truly is a most fascinating old tintype photo.

Happy to receive comments.

All the best.
