KEITH HARING

This listing is for ONE (1) of (3) different December 1983 "INTO '84" HARING exhibit announcement post cards showing a naked  Choreographer Model: BILL T. JONES. Jones was body painted by Haring in Paris in 1983 & photographed by Haring's long-term friend and documentary photographer TSENG KWONG CHI. For this series Haring borrowed Jones' body --from head to toe --as the canvas for his work to serve as a bodily canvas defined by much of the bold pictograms characteristic of Haring's many artistic creations.  

EACH OF THE 3 CARDS IN THIS RARE SET (of which one is being offered in this listing) ARE IN MINT CONDITION !

THIS IS A VERY RARE SET OF EPHEMERA SHOWING Artistic IMAGES AS CREATED BY HARING.The card image showing Bill T. Jones' body in red & black is the exact promo poster image for "Into 84" which was published to promote the show.

PROVENANCE: Images of Haring are included in the photos (or slides) taken by my sister Shelley. My sister met Haring on numerous occasions at his exhibits.

THIS IS ONE of the  ORIGINAL SET of 3 Post CARD Announcements/Invitations THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN SENT OUT TO ANNOUNCE & PROMOTE THE HARING SHOW at the SHAFRAZI GALLERY NOTED ON THE CARD- Except all cards offered are in completely MINT condition-

This original 3 post card announcements, despite being 35 years old, are in near perfect condition.  These were obtained unused by my late sister when she went to the Art Exhibit noted in this card, put into an envelope, never handled, and stored in a non-smoking home.

This is one of the set of 3 post card announcements which was sent prior to the "Into 84" exhibit to a distribution of potential attendees announcing the Exhibit by the organizers at the Shafrazi Gallery.  There were no other post card Invitations produced or sent out for this Exhibit. 

FURTHER:

IN 1983 Keith Haring teamed up with award-winning choreographer and dancer Bill. T. Jones, founder of the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company. Keith and Bill met and worked together in London in 1983 when Haring was opening a major show at the Robert Fraser Gallery. Together Jones and Haring produced a series of exceptional collaborations in both performance and drawing which led to the post card images shown on the 3 Invitations shown in this listing.
