Description

This listing is for a circa 1890s, set of 12 butter pats signed by the John Moses Glasgow Pottery Company out of Trenton, NJ. They measure 3 inches or 7.6 cm square. The pieces have a white ground with a cobalt blue flower and vine pattern over it with heavy applied gold on the edges. The pieces are marked with a monogram mark or "GLASGOW CHINA WARRANTED" which dates the pieces to the late 19th century. John Moses founded the Glasgow Pottery in 1863. In 1899 the Glasgow Pottery made, by order of the United States Government, crockery for the use of the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. The pottery continued in operation until shortly after the death of Moses in 1902.

There is crazing to the glaze throughout, dark toning to one of the butter pats and one has a large bottom edge chip. Please see the many photographs for more on the look and condition, as they are an important part of the description.
