It contains three major works as outlined below and has a total of over 5400 pages of information.

This work consists of two large books that are absolutely superb. There are a total of approximately 800 pages. Each book contains several volumes, with a topical approach to life, people, places, architecture, fashions, etc. They cover Roman times through to 1860. There are thousands of old engravings illustrating the work. Much of these works consist of a double page of text followed by a double page of illustrations.

This work is concise A-Z dictionary of surnames in the United Kingdom. It discusses surname meanings and origins.

The book also includes an essay on the origins of surnames. It discusses the necessity for distinctive nicknames in Scotland, French surnames, Anglo Saxon and Scandinavian names, Flemish names in S. Wales and more. There is also an appendix of principal foreign names found in British directories. There are well over 600 pages in this work.

This work consists of five huge volumes comprising the earliest directory for Great Britain. There are over 4000 pages!The descriptions of the towns and villages are excellent. Details of their facilities are included and residents with trades are listed. Although titled "Great Britain", this directory covers places in England and Wales. Volume 1 of the five is devoted to London, volumes 2 to 4 cover the places in the England and Wales in alphabetical order, and vol. 5 contains a number of the subsequent amendments and additions published in the next few years.
