Issue 1 - The Gathering

Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, the Mummy, the Werewolf, the Sea Creature, and the Banshee. The Greatest Monsters of the past brought to the future to save mankind from a new race of cannibalistic monsters... What could possibly go wrong?

In H.G. Wells’ “The Time Machine” the Time Traveler journeys to the future to

discover the human race has evolved into two separate species. One, the Eloi,

is peaceful and not too dissimilar in appearance from modern men and women today.

The other species are called Morlocks. They are savage in appearance, cannibalistic, and live underground. The Time Traveler falls in love with an Eloi woman named Weena. They are attacked by Morlocks and Weena is taken.

The story you are about to read is what happens next. The time traveler, intent on

saving the woman he loves, travels back in time and puts together a group of his

own monsters to save her and her people.

At the end of Mary Shelley’s original novel “Frankenstein” the Creature weeps

over the dead body of his creator. Though his creator had just pursued him to

the ends of the earth in an attempt to destroy him, he still had compassion and

felt sadness in his passing. He tells the only witness to this sad scene that the

world no longer needs fear him. He will go north and destroy himself in a

funeral pyre. The story ends with him floating away on an iceberg toward

 the north pole.

So this is where Good Creatures begins, by picking up where Mary Shelley left off.

The creature has reached his final destination and is carrying the mast of an

abandoned ship that is trapped in the icy frozen waters of the arctic north,

to add to the fuel of what will be his funeral pyre. This is where the

Time Traveler first encounters Frankenstein's monster.

The Time Traveler selects the mummy because of his former identity of king

Amenemhat III from ancient Egyptian history. He is aware of certain

details that historians are not, which will make the Mummy the perfect

candidate for his growing group of Good Creatures.

The three of them then journey to Transylvania, November

6th, 1893. The day Dracula was killed.

At the end of Bram

Stokers’ novel “Dracula”, Dracula was being transported

by gypsies in a crate, pursued by his enemies. They raced

toward Castle Dracula, attempting to reach it before the

sunset. His enemies overpowered the gypsies before

the sunset, and pried open Dracula’s crate. Jonathan Harker

cut off Dracula’s head at the same moment that Quincy

Morris stabbed him through the heart. Being over 400

years old, Dracula crumbled to dust, and that was his end.

So when the Time Traveler enters the scene, he is faced with the dilemma of

how to save Dracula without altering the events recorded at the end of Bram

Stokers novel, and causing a time paradox.

The time traveler chooses a very particular werewolf for his group, named

Joseph Pierce, because he possesses a moral compass and an aptitude for

hunting predators. Skills that will prove very useful if he is to save

the woman he loves in the future.

This story is a sequel of sorts, to three masterpieces from classic literature. It takes

the most unlikely anti-heroes and flings them head on into a situation where they

must rise above their former circumstances in order to be deemed Good Creatures.

Based on the works of H.G. Wells' "The Time Machine", Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein", and Bram Stoker's "Dracula".
