Significance: The Joers-Ketchum Store is among the structures built during the second phase of development in Rancho Santa Fe's Civic Center, when individual landowners, not the Santa Fe Land Improvement Company, began to commission buildings that broadened and expanded the range of services available in the community. It is also one of only two two-story commercial structures designed by Lilian Rice and built in the Civic Center.
