Victorian era ring, estimated date 1860-1880

The ring is in good condition, there are a few signs of wear to the ring. It’s got some fine scratches on the gold and some really tiny scratches on the garnets, the scratches are very hard to see without magnification

The garnets have been tested and confirmed to be natural. I believe they are grossular garnets although I am not 100% sure about that

The ring has been resized and had the hallmarks removed, which is unfortunate as all the information about this was lost due to that.

The gold purity has been tested using non destructive methods and was confirmed to be between 9ct and 10ct gold, closer towards 9ct

Each garnet has a slightly different shade of red when held up to the light, the middle and larger garnet has a pinkish red colour to it

I would also like to add that two of the smaller garnets are glued into place using clear epoxy glue.

None of the stones are loose in their setting and would take a bit of force to remove the stones

An Australian size N 1/2

Ring band width of 1.1mm

Ring band thickness of 0.6mm

The cluster setting is 13.7mm in length,

11.5mm in width,

And 4.3mm in thickness.

And just a bit of backstory to this ring,

It was purchased from an elderly lady who had said that this ring was her grandmothers wedding present and was passed down to her from her mother.

The lady had told me that her mother had the ring resized because it was too small for her fingers

I suspect the ring is English made as the lady also told me that she migrated from England to Australia during the later 1960s
