In 1972 and 1973, the Pioneer 10 and 11 spacecraft were launched with the mission of being the first to get a close-up look at the planets Jupiter and Saturn.
Because of the speed needed to do the flybys, these spacecraft were destined to leave the Solar System forever.
At the behest of astronomer Carl Sagan, a plaque was conceived and made for the spacecraft, on the off chance that some future alien might stumble across it. The plaque had a drawing of a male and female human, a schematic view of our Solar System showing the spacecraft path, and a means of locating the Solar system with reference to several pulsars.
This plaque is a reproduction, approximately actual size. (See the last photo for an explanation). Laser-etched gold metallic plastic.
About 7.5" X 6" Has wall hanger on back. Comes with a printout of the explanation.  Spacecraft and launch vehicle not included!
