Vintage 1920s ALEXANDER STURM Vienna Austria Gilt 800 Silver Cigarette Case

Masterfully hand made heavy cigarette case by Alexander Sturm of Vienna, Austria. Crafted in the beginning of the 20th century, the piece features an extremely fine wheeled texture all around. The inside is also gilt and still has the original flexible bands to hold cigarettes in place. Push button, hinges and spring mechanism work nicely.

Marked "900" for a common European silver standard of 90% silver and bearing Alexander Sturm's makers mark, the four leaved clover. Also stamped on the button with the hoopoe bird hallmark indicating a manufacturing date after 1922 and confirming the 900 fineness of the silver (number "2") and Vienna as the location (letter "W").

The piece measures approximately 4" long x 3" wide x 1/2" high and weighs about 165 grams.

Very heavy and solid piece in good condition. Usually, cigarette cases of this age have many dings and scratches but this one shows very minor wear and has just accumulated some patina which could easily be polished away if desired.

Previously in private collection.
