One side of the card contains a depiction of two cranes and the Traditional Chinese characters: 恭 賀 新 禧 (Gōng Hè Xīn Xǐ) meaning Happy New Year.

Cranes are an important motif in Chinese mythology, symbolising prosperity and longevity.

Underneath are the words Happy New Year (in English). Next to this is a depiction of a Chinese junk ship, on which contain the Chinese characters: 一 帆 風 順 (Yī Fān Fēng Shùn) meaning Plain sailing.

 

恭 賀 新 禧 is also on the top right corner of the card

 

On the other side of the card are the Chinese characters: 竹 報 平 安 (Zhú Bào Píng Ān) meaning A letter home, announcing all is well.

 

The inside of the card is blank for you to write your own message.

  

The envelope has the Chinese characters 恭 賀 新 禧 (Happy New Year) and a depiction of a Chinese junk ship with the Chinese characters: 一 帆 風 順, and an evergreen tree with the Chinese characters: 松 柏 常 青 (Sōng Bǎi Cháng Qīng) meaning Evergreen.
