1977 Topps Charlie's Angels # 250 Devising a Plan! (EX)

Television series about a wealthy mystery man (Charles Townsend) who runs a detective agency via a speakerphone and his personal assistant, John Bosley. His detectives are three beautiful women, who end up in a variety of difficult situations.

Charlie's Angels was a cultural phenomenon when it first aired. Not only did the show move a lot of Farrah Fawcett posters, it spawned four series of trading cards. 1977 Topps Charlie's Angels is a simple set typical of the time period. While somewhat readily available still, finding cards in top condition can be a little more difficult.

1977 Topps Charlie's Angels has 253 total cards. These are spread across four smaller releases. Series 1 has the first 55 cards. The other three have 66 cards each. Like Topps Star Wars sets from the same period, each series builds off the other to make one full set.

From series to series, card designs remain static. A rectangular shot from the show is in the center of the card with a thick colored border running along the top, bottom and one side of the card. The top corner has the show's iconic silhouette logo with the card number. The black from the logo continues around the side and bottom of the thick colored ribbon. After all this, there's also a white outer border. The card's caption sits in the colored border on the bottom of the card. Most of the card backs act as puzzle pieces, although some have write-ups instead.

1977 Topps Charlie's Angels has a total of 44 different stickers, 11 per series. These were inserted one per pack. Each series has a very different design. Series 1 has black borders with stars and circles shooting out. Series 2 is similar but the black background is switched for white. Series 3 switches to a rainbow effect that has blue in the innermost ring and black on the outside. Series 4 features red around the Angels and black for the background.

Besides the numbers, the biggest changes in the sets came between the second and third releases. Farrah Fawcett appears only in the first half of the set. She left the show and was replaced by Cheryl Ladd. Ladd played Kris, the younger sister of Fawcett's Jill.

Today, 1977 Topps Charlie's Angels trading cards aren't overly expensive. They're also not too hard to find, particularly some of the sticker sets. The toughest thing is to find them in top condition. Besides the usual corner dings and general use, centering is also an issue.
