What is Egyptian Cotton?

Egyptian cotton comes from the species Gossypium Barbadense. This is the same plant from which Pima cotton originates. However, the climate in Egypt produces longer fibers than any other cotton. These long fibers are spun into extra-fine threads, which are then woven into a high-quality fabric.

Does Egyptian cotton shrink?

You must expect that Egyptian cotton can shrink approximately 5%, so be careful with the temperature settings on your washing machine.

What thread count is best?

Thread Count Matters (But Highest Isn't Always Best) Generally, the higher the thread count, the softer the sheet, and the more likely it will wear well — or even soften — over time. Good sheets range anywhere from 200 to 800, although you'll occasionally see numbers over 400.

Can you tumble dry Egyptian cotton?

Egyptian cotton bedding can be tumble dried on a low setting. To keep it looking its best, take it out of the dryer right after the cycle is completed, and iron quickly, while it's still very slightly damp, before folding and putting away. You might find that your bedding lasts longer if you hang it out to dry.

Does Egyptian cotton get softer as you wash it?

We recommend you use an extra rinse cycle to help wash out any extra detergent. Its also advantageous to wash one sheet at a time, to prevent overloading your washing machine and aiding in the rinse cycles. ... Remember, your new Egyptian cotton sheets will get softer and softer after each washing, drying and ironing.

Does Egyptian cotton need ironing?

No ironing, and because Egyptian cotton is so absorbent, it is especially good for dyeing, providing you with plenty of colour choice.

What type of sheets do 5 star hotels use?

Speaking of heavenly cocoons, those silky yet crisp sheets you slide into at luxury hotels tend to clock in at around the 200-300 thread-count mark. They are always cotton (specifically Egyptian cotton), because they're the most breathable and help you stay cool, so make sure to steer clear of cheaper microfibre varieties.
