The AMWELL PRESS is the publishing arm of THE NATIONAL SPORTING FRATERNITY founded in March, 1976 by Jim Rikhoff. He was know and liked throughout the sport publishing industry as a result of his early founding of the Winchester Press. Because of his popularity with the industry he was able to get a who's who of international big game hunters and sport hunters as authors. The titles in the series would include original works by professional hunters, books by active sport hunters, anthologies that contained selections from both contemporary hunters and classic works and reprints of sought after titles. The titles are limited to 1000 copies with beautiful leather bindings and slipcases. These titles are all SIGNED by the author or editor or both and by Jim Rikhoff. In many editions you will find great photographs from the authors personal collections while in others you will find illustrations from artists that capture the feel of the stories.

A CRY FOR THE LIONS is the story of Darky's lion pride, and the other prides within the Mashatu Game Reserve. The total population of the lion in Africa today is estimated at perhaps two hundred thousand. A few decades ago this figure was probably double, and by the beginning of the next century perhaps only a few thousand will grace the rapidly changing Africa continent, and these few thousand will exist only in the national parks and hopefully in game reserves such as Mashatu. The tears have now dried and Gareth Patterson's story is an attempt to create some understanding of these animals and the care they deserve.
