Great Antique Alpine Bavarian / German 800 Silver & Coin Belt Key or Purse Chain

This stunning belt chain was hand made in Germany around the middle of the 19th century and features a belt clasp adorned with a large 1775 Bavarian Silver 1 Thaler Coin with "Patrona Bavariae" (Madonna with child as the protector of Bavaria) on the obverse and Maximilian III on the reverse. The coin is framed in a twisted rope bezel. Suspended on the clasp is a silver chain with a large silver key / purse ring which can be opened. The piece could be worn by either a man or a woman with the large key ring holding large (at the time they were!) keys, a purse or similar items.

This gorgeous piece is in very good antique condition with some patina according to age which can easily be polished away if desired.

This unusual piece measures 8 1/4" long x 2 3/8" wide and weighs 72.7 grams. Tested for 800 Silver and stamped with a makers mark and the silversmith's name: J. Kolbinger.

Very unusual antique item from the European Alps!
