5.0 out of 5 stars  “Five Stars”

Love these books and this is a thrilling conclusion to the series.  Like episodes of Doctor Who on TV, this book can be read as a stand-alone story, or as part of a bigger story arc (to get the most from it, I recommend the latter i.e. to read all the Darksmith books in order).

4.0 out of 5 stars  “Riveting read… with sporadic logic problems every so often to keep you on your toes!”

Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 8 August 2015

This is the tenth and last book in this young reader series, wrapping up the adventure. As with many in the series, the books are almost standalone stories and are quite lively and interesting, along with the nice idea of having logic or maths problems every few chapters so you can feel you are taking part in the action. It does make for a better read.

In this story, there is a great new location - the space brain. It is a giant school for geniuses, in the shape of a giant (human) brain. I found it quite fun having the Doctor drop in like an ofsted inspector, and then marshalling groups of kids who use their talents to come up with ingenious tricks and traps. The Krashoks can be quite ruthless and scary, nevertheless the story had a satisfactory ending with the device finally being fired.
