Dorothea Wieck and Hertha Thiele star in this German cult classic from the 1930s, directed by Leontine Sagan. Following her enrolment at an all-girl Prussian boarding school, Manuela (Thiele) responds to the harsh regime by developing a deep attachment to one of the more affable teachers, Fr�ulein von Bernburg (Wieck). As she finds herself growing increasingly attached to her teacher she struggles to concentrate on her studies. However, the stern Headmistress (Emilia Unda) reprimands von Bernburg for being too kind to the students but the students respond by showing solidarity towards their teacher and supporting Manuela who is grappling with expressing her true desires.
