This is a specialty product and within that niche it does well. Since I had a very specific need I was fairly happy with the results. Biggest disappointment was a surprisingly mediocre value. At $32.48 per cup I used 3 cups to finish a piece I bought with an initial treatment already applied which I thought, in hindsight, more than I wanted to spend.

We did 3 coats on each side of a new set of butcher block counters. With a bit of light sanding between coats, they?re well sealed (water beads on them) and they?re silky smooth.

Used this as a topcoat for a hard maple tabletop over Interbuild?s brown stain. It?s easy to apply with a rag but wait 15-20 min to penetrate before wiping back excess. They recommend 3 coats with 6-8 h drying time between. First 2 coats dried completely but the third remains tacky even after a week. Finish is very low luster - more matte than satin. Very low odour. Expensive but has excellent coverage. Good where a food safe surface is required.

I'm a complete novice at finishing wood. I bought one of Interbuild's acacia countertops and wanted to give it a nice, waterproof finish. The countertop was a little rougher than I expected. I was told by Interbuild that this hardwax wood oil would help smooth out the surface. When I opened the package, the can was shockingly small. The can is only 8.5 ounces and is about the size of a can of soda. However, with this product you only need to do one or two coats, and it covers a large area. I used it on both sides of a 3'x6' countertop and did three coats just to be thorough and try to make it really glossy. It used a little less than half the can. I'm a novice and am not sure if my coats were lavish or thin compared to what should be done. To open the can you have to pull on a plastic ring. It was quite difficult and hurt my finger. The plastic stretched so much, I was sure it was going to snap before it fully opened. As you pull, the top kind of pops out like a flexible nozzle. If your wood is somewhat rough when starting, I definitely recommend getting it sanded to the recommended 220 grit at least before starting, with some light sanding with 400 grit in between coats. I didn't do any sanding and ended up with a rougher coat than I wanted. The end result was pretty satisfying overall. The countertop I got had been previously stained, so using this clear hardwax oil just made the stain more glossy looking and made it waterproof.
