Solid hard nose bars are a good option for dirty, sandy conditions where sprocket nose bars will fail more quickly.  

A hard nose bar also tolerates plunging or boring better than sprocket nose bars.   

Frozen and dirty cutting, often a carbide tipped chain is a good pairing with this premium bar.
