Beautiful Antique 1920s W. FREY Germany 835 Silver & Red Coral Designer Ring

This stunning piece was hand crafted around the 1920s by Frey & Co. in Germany and features an oval red Coral cabochon set in a simple yet elegant silver frame. The ring band is open in the back and can thus be easily adjusted.

Wilhelm Friedrich Frey established his jewelry company in Pforzheim, Germany around the middle of the 19th century. At the time, Pforzheim was a center of European gemstone cutting and jewelry manufacturing. Still today, you are greeted by a sign that reads "The Golden City" when driving into town. If you take the time for a visit to the jewelry museum you are in for quite a treat.

Around the 1890s, Wilhelm's son Friedrich took over the business until 1925. After that, little is known about the company's fate. On February 23rd, 1945, Pforzheim was leveled in one of the largest area bomb raids of WWII. Over one third of the population was killed and 80% of the buildings were destroyed in a matter of minutes. Many companies didn't recover from the loss of life and property and though the company attempted a move to another city, it eventually closed its doors forever.

The piece is in very good vintage condition with some patina according to age which can be polished away if desired. The gemstone stone is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs.

The ring is a size 6.5 with the front measuring 3/8" wide x 1/4" high; it weighs 1 gram. Stamped "835" for a common European Silver standard of 83.5% Silver and carrying Frey's makers mark, an "F" followed by a star.

A very beautiful and elegant European Art Deco piece!
