Very rare and wonderful guide book and catalog for builders and contractors, and Wood and Iron Workers, published in San Francisco in 1891. "Pointers for Builders, Contractors and Wood and Iron Workers -- containing: Rules for estimating on Building Construction; Tables bearing on the Strength, Durability, and Characteristics of Building Materials; the Mechanics' Lien Law of California; forms of Notes, Liens, Contracts, Etc." And so forth and so on, compiled by one Fred W. Beau de Zart (obviously a silly fake name). An incredible 207 page book filled with building information, as well as many, many ads for architects, builders, machine makers, plumbers, mechanics, and various tool and machine dealers in San Francisco before the earthquake. Many wonderful woodcut prints and fancy graphics.  Cloth covered hardback, first edition. This book is a very rare one, and the only other copy to have turned up in recent years sold at auction for $468.75, and wasn't in as good condition as this one. This copy has a little wear on the cover but the insides are almost perfect, with only an occasional little mark the original owner put in as some sort of place keeper. The pages are all crisp and clean, and the binding perfectly strong and sound. This copy is just beautiful and an incredible piece of San Francisco and architectural / technical history.
