Vinca Minor Periwinkle Hardy
Evergreen Ground Cover Plant Shrub
25+ Bare Root Plants
Drought Resistant and a Fast and Easy Growing
Spreading Plant.
The Periwinkle flower
(vinca minor) is most commonly grown as a form of ground cover; it is
exceptional for preventing erosion. It grows best in growing zones 4 to 8. It
is also referred to as creeping Vinca. It blossoms from April to May, and its
blooms are a beautiful color. Their flowers are about one to two inches in
diameter and funnel-shaped. Each flower has five flattened petals.
The leaves range in size
from 1 & 1/2 inches to 3 inches in length and are a shade of dark green.
The leaves are oblong in shape and have a glossy appearance. They also can be
propagated from stem cuttings that are collected anytime during the summer
months.
When planting new plants,
space them six to twelve inches apart to prevent garden choking. There are over
thirty types of vinca minor. It is known for spreading; once it is established
in the desired location in your landscape, it requires minimal care.
Periwinkle
(Creeping Vinca) Is Drought Resistant and Grows Easily
This herb has its ideal
growing conditions in USDA Growing Zones 4 – 8 and reaches maximal heights of 6
inches tall. The plant grows horizontally more than vertically, however, with a
maximum spread width of 18 inches at full maturity. In keeping with its
perennial nature, the leaves of the Vinca minor are evergreen and grow
throughout the year. The plant begins blooming in early May and reaches peak
bloom by the end of June.
Blooms of the Periwinkle
are a light pastel lavender color and maintain a tube-like structure throughout
the blooming season. Optimum growing conditions for the Vinca
minor are composed of medium-moisture to dry soil beds, and the plant
grows best underneath ample amounts of direct sunlight. However, even if direct
sunlight is not present, the Periwinkle plant will grow efficiently in partly
shaded environments, and it is versatile enough to grow in heavily shaded areas
as well.
Frequent uses of
the Vinca minor include erosion control in heavily watered
areas and normalizing the soil quality near the banks of rivers and streams.
Please Read
Note that most plants and trees are shipped DORMANT. They may or may not have foliage when
received. Plant the tree soon after
receipt, water well, and it will come to life in a few weeks or less.
Many plants will be shipped in a small container with potting soil or
peat moss and may be cut back (pruned) hard for shipping purposes. They too will spring to life in a short
time.
I have had many issues with buyers not reading the full description, then leaving negative feedback or threatening to leave negative feedback after receipt.
Please refer to the photographs.
The 4th photo is what your bundle might look like upon receipt. The plants may or may not have a visible root system. If the root end has pink and white coloring, it WILL root.
The 5th photo is what 1 bundle will look like in 3-4 weeks when planted in potting soil in a trade gallon bucket.
The 6th photo is a comparison of the difference a few weeks makes.
Some buyers have put their Periwinkle in water to root and have had only limited success.
I recommend to place the bundles in a pot with potting soil, water WELL and OFTEN, and place the pot(s) in a shady area. The plants will begin to thrive in a few weeks. You can then dump the pots and plant each vine where you desire.
