ANTIQUE BRONZE RITUAL ALTAR IMPLEMENT WITH SHAPE OF TREE OR STUPA – NEPAL – 19/20TH C.

This ritual altar implement originates from Nepal.

This ritual altar implement have been used by the Newari village people of Nepal inside their houses or temples during certain ceremonies and rituals.

This object differs from the traditional ritual powder container, covered by a multi-tiered parasol (called sinhamu), because it does not consists of a container and rather resembles a tree because of the leaf motif instead parasols.

The round stand is decorated with perforated design and has one tier with perforated leaf shape decoration. Above that, there are again five tiers with perforated leaf shaped decoration. The whole has the shape of a tree or even a stupa.

Age: 19/20th C.
