This is a lovely large rosewood Victorian jewellery box inlaid with mother of pearl decoration and silver coloured metal banding.  Six small circles of mother of pearl decorate the lid of the box in a geometric pattern and the same pattern is repeated on the front of the box.  The centre of the lid of the box is decorated with a rectangle of mother of pearl and the box keyhole is also set in a mother of pearl rectangle.

The exterior dimensions are: Height 12cm, Depth 22.5cm, Width 30.5cm

The interior dimensions are: Height 10cm, Depth 20.5cm, Width 28cm

The box is in pretty good overall antique condition and the rosewood veneer is in good shape bar the two top back corners where the veneer has lifted on the right hand corner most likely a long time ago and has been pinned and on the opposite corner the veneer is all intact but now lifting very slightly.  One of the bottom corners on the back of the box has also lost a small square area of veneer.  The top of the box has a couple of old scratches which do not detract from its appearance but which I should mention for a full description.

For completeness there are two narrow wood splits running horizontally across the lid of the box one all the way across and the other part way across and the photos show this.  All part of the age and use of the box. This does not detract from the beauty of the box but needs to be mentioned. The base of the box has lost its original felt covering and it has a wood split running horizontally across the base. Please see the accompanying photos of the box for the full description.

The box sits solidly on a surface with no rocking or tilting, the lid opens and closes with no issues and the original brass hinges are still in place and are working.

The locking mechanism is all still present and correct but the box does not have a key.

The interior of the box no longer has its top jewellery drawer but could still be used for storing treasures or to add to a collection of boxes on display.

Traces of the original blue paper lining is still visible inside the box.

This item has had a previous life and may show signs of wear and tear commensurate with age.  If I spot any issues these will be included in the description or in the photos of the item.  Please check these before purchasing.
