1920 HOPE HAMPTON SILENT MOTION PICTURE ACTRESS HAMILTON KING ART COVER COV1486

DATE OF THIS  ** ORIGINAL **  ILLUSTRATED COVER: 1920

SPECIAL CHARACTERISTICS/DESCRIPTIVE WORDS:   When collecting ILLUSTRATED COVER ART one can do so by content, artist, year, theme, etc etc... with plenty of each to fill a wall or portfolio...  Prices are normally based on condition, artist, condition, theme, condition, publishing year, condition... and condition... (DO YA SEE THE PATTEN...HAHA)   Most of the covers where mailed folded (and / or folded by the owner to fit the back pocket or purse).  Those covers which have no center fold have a higher premium in any collection.  Because of the gloss paper used and the richness of inks for most covers, age wear + use from handling are very important factors in pricing (see above value line for pricing factors)

ILLUSTRATED COVER artwork is fun, exciting and well worth COLLECTING, as each year takes it's toll... the remaining covers available in the market have shrunk AND THUS those that survive consistently keep INCREASING in value..  Framed correctly with acid free techniques and quality matting, backing and frames will no doubt increase their value as the years pass.  and in the meantime one gets to derive the pleasure of enjoyment and sharing with friends..

COVER ART  works well to display not only in the home but certainly does well for any office, or business establishment..  Always getting plenty of "viewing", questions and comments...

Hope Hampton (Mae Elizabeth Hampton; February 19, 1897 – January 23, 1982) was an American silent motion picture actress and producer, who was noted for her seemingly effortless incarnation of siren and flapper types in silent-picture roles during the 1920s. She also at one time was an aspiring opera singer

Texas-born, Philadelphia-bred beauty contest winner Hampton was discovered by U.S. silent cinema pioneer Jules Brulatour while working as an extra for director Maurice Tourneur. She made her screen debut in 1920's A Modern Salome, and went on to feature prominently in several Brulatour-financed films. Her last starring role was in The Road to Reno (1938) with Randolph Scott and Glenda Farrell. In 1923, Hampton wed her manager Brulatour, and they remained married until his death in 1946.

Hampton was trained as an opera singer by voice teacher Estelle Liebling, the teacher of Beverly Sills. After retiring from motion pictures at the dawn of sound, she turned to opera and made her debut with the Philadelphia Opera in Manon. The idea that she ever toured with the Metropolitan Opera is belied by a look at the company's online archives. She returned to the screen in The Road to Reno (1938), a film directed by her husband. Later she was known as The Duchess of Park Avenue, a leading member of New York's social set.

In 1978, she was crowned Queen of the Beaux Arts Ball. She presided with King Arthur Tracy.

She died of a heart attack at the age of 84.

Hampton and Brulatour took a honeymoon trip to Egypt, there a Sheikh offered Brulatour £10,000 British pounds to buy his wife. Brulatour smiled at the Sheikh and told him that Mrs. Brulatour's jewels were worth more than that.

Brulatour also gave Hope Hampton a 5-story home on Park Avenue (built in 1885 and redesigned in 1921 by Emery Roth), which became Tour Hope Hampton and was listed for $9 million in 2016.

ILLUSTRATOR/ARTIST: Hamilton King (1871–1941) was a prominent illustrator who worked in the late 1800s and early 1900s. King illustrated the "Coca-Cola girls" for calendars from 1910 to 1913.

The Hamilton King Award was established in 1965 by Mrs. Hamilton King in memory of her husband through a bequest and is presented annually for the best illustration in the annual exhibition executed by a member of the Society of Illustrators.

Hamilton King (1871–1941) was a prominent illustrator who worked in the late 1800s and early 1900s. King illustrated the "Coca-Cola girls" for calendars from 1910 to 1913. The Coca-Cola calendar work was considered significant because the artist's signature appeared in all printed matter for Coca-Cola, including serving trays.

King became well known for his "Hamilton King Girls", significantly working on behalf of Turkish Trophies Cigarettes. A majority of this collection is held by The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Additional collections of the artist are held by the Smithsonian Institution.
