The work had been attributed to Guyon by Quérard, attribution taken up by J. Tulard.
Marcel Le Clère rightly remarks that Guyon takes Froment to task in his writings, which rules out the idea of attributing this book to him. Froment also published in 1830 a Histoire de Vidocq written after himself.
